In modern world, is Electoral College obsolete?

After reading your excellent editorial about the Electoral College on Sept. 18, I started remembering my high school civics class and what I was taught. The teacher explained to us that our Founding Fathers were afraid that the people would vote for the wrong person. The reason for that fear was because there was very little in the way of communication in those days. Most news was passed around by word of mouth, mostly by someone riding from town to town on horseback. So it must have been difficult for voters to learn much about the candidates, and to know which one to vote for.

So, the Electoral College was put into our Constitution. I had been thinking it was unconstitutional but I have learned better. It’s in there.

Communication is no problem now. Does that make the Electoral College obsolete? We the People elected Hillary Clinton, and Bill said he would take care of Michelle’s garden.

I can’t help thinking about how much nicer things might be now if Hillary were in the White House.

Wonderful, warm, sweet, smart Hillary.

If only, if only … .

How about joining Adults

Protesting Trump?

As a responsible Republican, I dread waking up to the latest President Trump tweet storm. Normally, adults control their behavior. But, our president is not normal. He lies, picks fights with friends and foes alike, attacks anyone who criticizes him, and continues to demean his office.

“So, what?” you ask. The “what” is not getting things done. Sure, he can sign an executive order, roll back Obama regulations, or pander incessantly to his base. But, “what” about governing, that is, working for ALL Americans, proposing legislation that doesn’t hurt the average American/Arkansan and can make it through congress?

Since President Trump can’t or won’t govern, I suggest we become APT … Adults Protesting Trump! Of course, Washington needs to be changed, but not torn up. We still need results! Demand that our elected Republican representatives demonstrate some real backbone and push back against the president’s behavior, and do so now!

Citizens, become APT. Be the responsible adults in this country/state.

Protest!
