2 GOP candidates file finance reports

Republican secretary of state candidate John Thurston of Little Rock reported raising $3,300 in contributions, lending his campaign $339.01 and spending $8,649.52 in the quarter from July 1-Sept. 30.

Thurston, who has been the state's land commissioner since 2011, started the quarter with $19,891.09 in his campaign treasury and ended it with $14,880.58 in the bank, according to his report filed with the secretary of state's office Monday night.

The other Republican candidate for secretary of state -- state Rep. Trevor Drown of Dover -- reported raising $18,650 in contributions and spending $16,960.29 last quarter. He started the quarter with $21,641.33 in his campaign treasury and ended it with $23,331.04, according to his report filed with the secretary of state's office earlier this month.

Monday was the deadline for state candidates to file campaign finance reports for the previous quarter with the secretary of state's office or postmark them in the mail.
