Mississippi's Hudson, Drury ready for gig at White Water

Cary Hudson & Lynn Drury will perform at 9 p.m. today at the White Water Tavern. Admission is $6.

Hudson, a native of Mississippi, formerly led The Hilltops and later started the group Blue Mountain with his wife, Laurie Stirratt (twin sister of Wilco bassist John Stirratt) until the couple divorced and the band broke up in 2013. Hudson has released seven solo albums.

Drury, also a Mississippian, now based in New Orleans, is a singer-songwriter who has been compared with Lucinda Williams, Amy Winehouse and The Smiths. She released Rise of the Fall, her latest album, on Sept. 29. Her albums include Crossing Frequencies, All You Need and Sugar on the Floor.

Girls!, a benefit for KABF community radio, will be held at 9 p.m. Friday. Admission is $6.

The Not Necessarily Nashville anniversary show will be held at 9 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $6.

The show will feature performances by Brad Williams (of The Salty Dogs) and The Creek Rocks.

The Not Necessarily Nashville radio show, hosted by Flap Jones, is heard on KUAR-FM, 89.1, on Saturday nights.

The Salty Dogs will perform for a rare early "all ages" show at 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5.

The Paul Brock Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Hibernia Irish Tavern in Little Rock in a show sponsored by the Little Rock Folk Club. Admission is $15; $10 for military; $8 for students with IDs; and free for accompanied children age 12 and under.

Brock, a button accordion and melodeon player, is a multiple All-Ireland champion accordion player. He has collaborated with Ricky Skaggs on Green Grass Blue Grass, a celebration of the connection between Appalachian and Irish music and has been a guest artist with The Chieftains several times.

In 2014, he performed a fully scored program with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra in Jackson, Miss.

His band includes Irish musicians Denis Carey on piano, Dave Curley (singer/dancer/multi-instrumentalist) and Shane Ferrell on banjo.

Denny Laine will perform, along with opening act The Cryers, at 9 p.m. Friday. Admission prices range from $15 to $40 (which includes a meet and greet).

Laine was the original lead singer of The Moody Blues and sang on the band's first hit single, "Go Now," in 1964, but quit the band two years later. He later was a member of Paul McCartney's group, Wings, from 1971-81; then was part of the lineup of the World Classic Rockers, whose members have included Spencer Davis, Aynsley Dunbar, Joey Molland of Badfinger, Mark Lindsey, Donovan and Randy Meisner of The Eagles.

A "vintage Vegas Party" featuring Haywood King, along with Bijoux, Rodney Block, Dee Dee Jones, Crissy P, Tawanna Campbell, J-Phil, Carter Thomas, Lachaz Holloway, Corey Harris, Jonathan Burks, Dre Franklin, Phillip Mouton, Marlon "Cat" Davis and William Shaw, will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 the day of the show.

Future Leaders of the World will perform at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 the day of the show.
