LR Christian bounces back

A week after losing by 30 to Pulaski Academy, Little Rock Christian won by nearly the same margin in a 55-26 victory over Little Rock Parkview on Friday night at Warrior Field.

Little Rock Christian (6-1, 3-1 5A-Central) and Parkview (4-3, 3-1) traded explosive plays for touchdowns, but Parkview's offense was slowed in the second half.

Little Rock Christian senior quarterback Jackson Bowersock was 22-of-28 passing for 428 yards and 4 touchdowns that each went for more than 40 yards.

"Most of them were wide open," Bowersock said. "We've got a lot of weapons. It just makes it easier knowing that if I hit them perfectly at 5 yards that they can take it for 80 yards."

Warriors junior receiver Justice Hill threw two passes on trick plays -- where he would receive a handoff then set and throw -- that went for 53 yards, including a 41-yard touchdown pass to senior Ladarius Burnes for a 14-7 lead with 3:15 left in the first quarter.

For Parkview, 275 of its 379 offensive yards came during the fist half, when senior running back Zachery Smith had a 64-yard touchdown run and junior quarterback Geary Allmon had a 55-yard rushing score.

Allmon had 21 carries for 139 yards and a touchdown.

The Patriots had 29 carries for 271 yards rushing, with 8 runs of more than 10 yards in the first half. Little Rock Christian held the team to just 57 rushing yards in the second half.

The Warriors led 34-20 at the half.

"Basically, we made a couple of adjustments defensively on personnel and things we were doing up front," Warriors Coach Eric Cohu said. "Long story short, they just did their job better in the second half."

The Warriors found themselves down 7-0 after Parkview scored a touchdown after a failed fourth-down attempt by the Warriors. Smith ran for a 64-yard touchdown with 8:58 left in the first quarter.

That would be Parkview's only lead of the game.

Little Rock Christian tied the game when Bowersock threw a 42-yard touchdown pass to Hill.

The Warriors scored three consecutive touchdowns in the second half, capped by a 22-yard touchdown return when senior defensive end Willie Chapple batted a screen pass attempt and intercepted it with 8:19 left in the game.

Chapple said it was his first touchdown since middle school.

"When you catch the ball, you just have to take advantage of opportunities like that," he said.

Next week, Little Rock Christian will play at Little Rock McClellan, and Parkview will host Pulaski Academy.
