Jacksonville man shot, killed at LR complex

A 30-year-old man was killed late Tuesday at an apartment complex in Little Rock, authorities said.

Shortly before 11 p.m., officers went to 2123 Labette Manor Drive, the listed address for Westbridge Apartments, after hearing gunshots in the area, Little Rock Police Department spokesman Lt. Steve McClanahan said.

Paul Gonzales of Jacksonville was found shot in the breezeway of the complex by officers who were on patrol in the area, McClanahan said in a Wednesday morning news conference.

Gonzales was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was taken to the state medical examiner's office for autopsy.

Detectives were not sure why Gonzales was at the complex, McClanahan said.

Witnesses reportedly heard gunshots, but no one saw the shooting, according to a police report released Wednesday afternoon.

No suspect or information about a possible motive is known, McClanahan said.

The killing was the first in Little Rock, not involving an officer, since Aug. 20, when a mother found her two children and their father dead in a west Little Rock home.

There have been 47 slayings in Arkansas' capital city so far this year.
