Little Rock cemetery to host annual 'Tales of the Crypt'

The 23rd annual Tales of the Crypt -- a presentation by 27 student actors re-creating the lives of famous Arkansans who have helped shape history -- will be held next week at Mount Holly Cemetery in Little Rock.

The students from Parkview Arts and Science Magnet High School researched each character and prepared original scripts for the performance, which is under the direction of Tamara Zinck. Local costumer Debi Manire is providing the historical characters' costumes.

Admission to the event, which is scheduled from 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Tuesday , is free to the public. But organizers appreciate donations to Mount Holly Cemetery. The money raised helps pay for maintenance of the cemetery.

Mount Holly Cemetery is at 1200 Broadway, just south of Interstate 630, in Little Rock.

Arkansas leaders in the fields of art, literature, religion and politics are buried in that cemetery. Among them are 11 Arkansas governors, 13 state Supreme Court justices, four U.S. senators, four Confederate generals, and 21 Little Rock mayors, according to the Encyclopedia of Arkansas.
