McDonald House VIP party turns fundraising hole-in-one

The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Arkansas didn't clown around at its Totally Tailgate VIP party, held Sept. 24 at Little Rock's Next Level Events. The party was a precursor to the charity's fundraising golf scramble, slated for the next day.

Football games were broadcast on big screens throughout the venue as attendees bid on silent-auction items and partook of libations and a bountiful buffet of heavy hors d'oeuvres: meatball subs, Mexican dip and tortilla chips, spinach dip with pita chips, chicken tenders, egg rolls, assorted desserts and more.

Chis Kane, Daybreak anchor for KATV, and board member Justin Acri of KABZ 103.7-FM "The Buzz" were masters of ceremonies at the event. They gleaned $1,800 from partygoers vying for a chance to get on the course with professional golfer Christina Lecuyer.

Executive director Janell Mason acknowledged sponsors, staff and board members; reminisced about moving in November into the new Ronald McDonald House; and announced that the charity had already met its goal for the events -- $160,000, "which is huge," she said. Event chairman Jim Schnoes also shared remarks.

The total raised was more than $173,000, Mason reported later. The Ronald McDonald house serves as free lodging for families of seriously ill or injured children being treated at area hospitals.
