LR MCCLELLAN 22, WYNNE 14

WYNNE — Quarterback Tyrse Lair had 110 yards and a score on 19 carries to go along with 45 yards passing and another touchdown to pace Little Rock McClellan to a victory at Wynne to earn a spot in the Class 5A state championship game for the second time in three years.

The game was a rematch from the second round of last year’s playoffs when Wynne dismantled McClellan 36-8, but this time it was McClellan (10-3) controlling the game, outgaining Wynne 275-242 in total offense.

TaVon Hicks, Wynne’s career leader in rushing yards, managed only 51 yards on 19 carries. Fellow senior Kris Miller rushed 10 times for 99 yards and a score but lost 2 of Wynne’s 3 fumbles. Wynne (11-2) scored on a pass from senior quarterback Luke Chapman to junior Allen Watson with 6:14 to play in the game, capped by a conversion run from Hicks to make the score 22-14 in favor of McClellan. Wynne forced McClellan to fumble after McClellan recovered an onside kick, but the Yellow-jackets turned the ball over on downs to end the game.
