Widening work to close U.S. 70 lanes

Construction on a $78.5 million project to widen U.S. 70 will require lane closings in Garland County for four days beginning Tuesday, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said.

Crews performing milling and paving work will require alternate closings of the eastbound and westbound lanes from Garland County Road 369 west for a quarter of a mile from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Friday, weather permitting.

Flaggers will control traffic within these work zones, but the department said motorists should consider alternate routes, including U.S. 270.

The work is part of a project to widen 17.5 miles of U.S. 70 from Interstate 30 in Benton to U.S. 70B in Hot Springs to five lanes from what is largely a two-lane route.
