Run 6, 12 or 24 hours with the Striders club

The annual 6/12/24 Hour Endurance Challenge is one way to incinerate extra calories you eat on Thanksgiving. The footrace is Friday and Saturday, or just Saturday, in Benton. Racer's choice.

Conducted by the Saline County Striders at Sunset Lake, the event challenges runners to pick the number of hours they think they can keep their legs moving on a paved loop that is just over 1 mile long. Six hours? Twelve? Twenty-four?

Racers are credited with the number of laps they complete during their chosen time frame.

Registration is free, but donations will be accepted to offset the costs of the event.

Racers doing the 24-hour bout will start at 7:30 p.m. Friday; other participants will start at 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

Organizers are urging everyone to sign up in advance, to provide a head count for aid stations and to limit data entry on race day. Runners are also encouraged to take a headlight or flashlight, and a water bottle to cut down on the use of disposable cups.

This event is part of the 2017-2018 Arkansas Ultrarunning Association Ultra Trail Series. Visit runarkansas.com for other runs in the series.

Awards will be given to the first male and female in the overall, masters, grand masters, and seniors categories. For those interested in recordbreaking, the course record was set by Tammy Walther of Little Rock in 2013, when she ran 116.725 miles (115 laps) in 24 hours.
