Enlightening Spark!

‘Stars’ and patrons mingle at Museum of Discovery’s annual fundraiser

Long flickering sparklers held in an arch by volunteers created a grand entrance for guests Nov. 7 as they walked into the Museum of Discovery for Spark!, the annual benefit for the museum.

Once inside, partygoers had access to the whole museum, where they could explore exhibits as well as special Spark! attractions. They included ice cream made with liquid nitrogen and a station where guests could try their hands at glass blowing guided by artist James Hayes as well as several other fun learning stations. Guests also enjoyed a silent auction and a buffet of charcuterie, cheeses, dips and breads by chef Shane Henderson.

A program included recognition of Spark! Stars, Arkansas residents who have used their study of science, technology, engineering or math to be successful in their careers. They were Kent Burnett, Gregory L. Kearns, Raye Montague, Dr. Bishawn Watson Morris, Gina Radke, LaShannon Spencer and Annice Steadman.

Money raised at the event will benefit the museum's educational program. Brooke and Tim Hicks were chairmen of the fundraiser.
