Children's champs honored by county

Several well-known Arkansans were honored Nov. 9 for making a difference in the lives of Arkansas' children at the fourth annual Champions of Youth Awards Dinner. Held at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, the dinner benefited Pulaski County Youth Services.

The Advocate for Youth Award was given to Dawn Scott; Theresa Timmons-Shamberger received the Director's Choice Award. The Visionary Award went to Kathy Webb and Rick Fleetwood received the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The program included remarks by Pulaski County Judge Barry Hyde, who was introduced by Dawne Vandiver, and an invocation from the Rev. Betsy Singleton Snyder. Closing remarks were by Pulaski County Youth Services Director Jamie Scott. Entertainment was by the Rodney Block Collective.

Terry Masching served as event chairmen. Money raised helps fund the after-school and out-of-school programs including an ACT Prep program, Youth Leadership Academy and Little Scholars.
