Voters in Alexander narrowly passed a 1 percentage-point raise in the city's sales and use tax for the town's general fund, according to noncertified results.
Complete but unofficial results showed:
For 59
Against 55
The tax passed by one vote in Pulaski County (5-4) and by three votes in Saline County (54-51). Alexander is in both counties.
If the results are certified showing passage, this would increase the town's local tax from 2 percent to 3 percent. The new tax rate would take effect Jan. 1.
