Gala serves guests food, glorious food

Guests of the Historic Arkansas Museum's Candlelight Gala were invited to "Come to the Table" and enjoy some famous Arkansas food and meet the folks who make it. The evening was celebration of Arkansas' food heritage.

Special guests were some of the first inductees into the Department of Arkansas Heritage's Food Hall of Fame including Rhoda and James Adams of Lake Village with Rhoda's Famous Hot Tamales, and Maria Washington of Lassis Inn.

During a reception servers passed samples of Rhoda's tamales, catfish from Lassis Inn, barbecue from Jones Bar-B-Que Diner in Mariana, artisan cheese from Southern Table Foods and pimento cheese from an 1870s Arkansas recipe. Sugar on the Floor and Delta Blues by Hal Vandiver and Danny Dozier provided the folk music.

Dinner, which included a wedge salad, quail, pork tenderloin and rice, was created by chef Mary Beth Ringgold. A Quapaw blessing before the meal was said by Ardina Moore of the Quapaw Tribe of Oklahoma, the presenting sponsor.

Lisa Fischer served as emcee for the program which included a welcome from Historic Arkansas Museum Foundation President Leah Elenzweig; and remarks by Stacy Hurst, director of the Department of Arkansas Heritage; and Swanee Bennett, director of the museum.
