Legion 341

Bella Vista American Legion Post 341 will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Post Hall at 1889 Bella Vista Way in Bella Vista. On Wednesday, a special breakfast will be held to introduce the new American Legion national commander to all Post 341 members.

In addition to meetings, the Legion hosts "Coffee With the Commander" for members on the first and third Saturdays of each month. On the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, a breakfast buffet is available to members and the public.

Lunches at the Post are served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday each week. These lunches are open to members and the public.

Additionally, the Post hosts a very well received "Taco Tuesday" each week followed by a "Fish Friday." Wednesday nights are devoted to our trivia contests for members and the public with Thursday nights finding these folks enjoying karaoke. For those desiring meals on these days, the restaurant features an excellent, casual themed menu.

Saturday evenings are dance nights open to the public starting at 7 p.m. These evenings feature local musical groups. Food on Saturdays is limited to hamburgers and accompaniments available from 4 to 7 p.m. Finally, the meeting hall is open to the public for rental on an as available basis.

Cancer Support

This supportive and educational group is for adult patients, caregivers, families and friends coping with leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, MDS or other blood cancers. The group meets from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hope Cancer Resources.

Archeologists

The Ko-ko-ci Chapter of the Arkansas Archeological Society will hold its meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Arkansas Archeological Survey building at 2475 N. Hatch Ave., off Garland Avenue in Fayetteville.

Guest speaker will be Jim Rees. He will present "Caddo Canteens: A Study of Certain Small Caddo Ceramic Vessels and Their Possible Use as Sound Tools." Rees' talk explores the possibility that small Caddo ceramic vessels known as canteens may have been sound tools rather than containers.

Refreshments served and the meeting is free and open to the public.

Hill Hikers

The Ozark Hill Hikers, affiliated with the American Volkssport Association, invites all interested persons to their next club meeting at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Presbyterian Church, 1880 Forest Hills Blvd. in Bella Vista. Bring a soup or dessert to share for a potluck luncheon.

SUV

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will meet for dinner at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Foghorn's Restaurant, 2221 W. Walnut St. in Rogers. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. The Sons of Union Veterans is a fraternal organization honoring the heritage of those who fought for the United States during the Civil War.

Hill 'N Dale

The Hill 'N Dale Hiking Club of Bella Vista will hike Wednesday at Lake Sequoyah Park in Fayetteville. The Shoreline Trail and Kingfisher Trail are 5.1 miles of moderate hiking. Carpool departure will be at 7:30 a.m. from Lowe's in Bella Vista or meet at the trailhead at 8:30 a.m. Bring a sack lunch. Nonmembers are welcome.

Book Club

The NorthWest Arkansas Community College Book Club will discuss "The Book of Unknown Americans" by Cristina Henríquez at its meeting from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday in Room 2243 of Burns Hall on the campus in Bentonville. The public is invited.

"The Book of Unknown Americans" is being read throughout Northwest Arkansas as part of the One Book, One Community Project.

Library Friends

The Bella Vista Friends of the Library annual Christmas basket silent auction will be held from Thursday through Dec. 6. Baskets will be on display during regular library hours. All proceeds go toward the expansion project.

DAR

The Ozark Mountains Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday at Simmons Bank, 3975 W. New Hope Road in Rogers. Eleanor Jones will present a program on native American plants. Anyone interested in joining is welcome.

Stage IV

Hope Cancer Resources offers a support group for men and women living with any type of stage IV cancer. This month's meeting is from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at Hope Cancer Resources.

Whirlaways

The Ark-Oma Whirlaways square dance club will dance at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Springdale Senior Center, 203 Park St. in Springdale. Johnny Eubanks will be the featured caller. There will be mainstream and plus level dancing and banners given to visiting clubs.

Fleet Reserve

The monthly meeting of the Fleet Reserve Association and Auxiliary will be at 2 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Western Sizzlin on Sunset Avenue in Springdale. Ladies are asked to bring a lady's gift and men a man's gift, ($10-$15) for gift exchange.

The Northwest Arkansas Ostomy Education and Support Group will meet at 2 p.m. Nov. 19 at Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale. There will be an educational meeting at 1 p.m. This month will include a question-and-answer session.

Orchid Society

The Orchid Society of the Ozarks will meet at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at Northwest Technical Institute, 709 S. Old Missouri Road in Springdale. The guest, Alan Koch, owner of Gold Country Orchids in Lincoln, Calif., will speak on "Unusual Species for the Cattleya Grower," sharing his 39 years of experience. He will bring plants to sell.

Anyone interested in growing orchids is welcome to attend. The objective of the society is to stimulate interest in orchids and their culture. Monthly plant judging and raffles, a spring sale at the Botanical Gardens of the Ozarks and annual public auction offer affordable orchids and supplies for new and experienced growers.

Ozark Trail

The Ozark Highlands Trail Association is leading a hike on Nov. 20 to Glory Hole and Kings River Falls. Carpool will leave Harps in Elkins at 9 a.m. to the Glory Hole, a two-mile in and out hike rated moderate difficulty due to elevation gain, then drive back to Kings River Falls for a level, 3/4 mile hike to this swimming hole under a spectacular waterfall. All hikers are welcome.

Stroke Support

The Different Strokes/Different Folks Support Group will meet from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 28 at Bella Vista Lutheran Church, 1990 Forest Hills Blvd. in Bella Vista. All stroke or traumatic brain injury survivors, their family, friends and caregivers are welcome to attend.

Red Hats

The Red Hat Society is a playgroup for women created to connect like-minded women, make new friends and enrich lives through the power of fun and friendship.

Flickering Flames is a Northwest Arkansas-based group that meets the second Wednesday of each month at an area restaurant. Women ages 50 and up are invited to join. The group is all about fun. There are no dues.

Line Dance Club

A beginners line dance class will meet on Wednesdays and Fridays from 12:45 to 2 p.m. beginning Jan. 3 at Riordan Hall. Registration fee for this class is $20, in addition to a $30 annual fee payable to Riordan Hall. If you do not have a Bella Vista photo ID, you will pay Riordan Hall $2.25 per class.

The class will be taught by Kristine Schaap, who has taught the beginners for several years. New dancers will have the opportunity to learn line dancing steps and dances that use these steps and will also receive handouts, lots of practice and personal attention.

Calico Cut-Ups

The Bella Vista Calico Cut-Ups quilt guild will not meet in November. The next meeting will be a Christmas luncheon at 11 a.m. Dec. 11 at the First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Drive in Bella Vista.

The cost is $5 for members, $10 for nonmembers, and tickets should be purchased by Dec. 1.
