1 SHOW AND SALE

The Arkansas Arts Center's 49th Collectors Show and Sale -- containing artwork ranging from Old Master drawings to finely crafted "art-to-wear" jewelry from 26 New York galleries -- opens Friday at the Arts Center in MacArthur Park, 501 E. Ninth St., Little Rock. All the works in the exhibition, on display through Jan. 7, are for sale, priced from under $500 to $85,000. The Junior League of Little Rock's shopping bonanza, Holiday House, is open for business at the Statehouse Convention Center, 101 E. Ballet Arkansas will be busy this weekend, with its season aopener, "Big Bands & Ballet," 7 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. The program includes the Little Rock premiere of Stabat Mater by 2017 Winter Visions Choreographic Competition winner Mariana Oliveira; excerpts from P.I. Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty; and the world premiere of new Artistic Director Michael Fothergill's Big Bands & Ballet. And at 2 p.m. Saturday comes the first of Ballet Arkansas' new Children's Series productions, Sergei Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf. Retro comics and fantasy get a loving tribute in the newest Art Department exhibit at the Thea Foundation, 401 Main St., North Little Rock. "Astro Pulp," works by Fayetteville-based illustrator Chad Maupin, opens with a reception, 6:30-9 p.m. Friday, with food, drinks and a chance to win an original print. Admission is $10.
