LITTLE RED RIVER (GREERS FERRY TAILWATER) Sporadic generation is creating excellent wade fishing conditions. Use fluorocarbon tippet to increase your catch numbers. In slow or still water, put some movement on the fly or Trout Magnet to get more strikes. Small mayflies (blue-wing olives) are still hatching, and trout are eating them. The hatch is best during late morning and early afternoon. Emerger flies are doing well in the shallow water during the hatch. Pink and white-colored Trout Magnets are recommended for spin fishing. Always check before heading to the Little Red River by calling the Army Corps of Engineers Little Rock District water data system, (501) 362-5150, for Greers Ferry Dam water release information or check the Corps of Engineers website (www.swl-wc.usace.army.mil) for real-time water release and the Southwestern Power Administration website (swpa.gov) to see a forecasted generation schedule.

BUFFALO RIVER With the warmer weather, the smallmouths are active and are hitting topwaters, square-bill crankbaits in the 1.5-2.5 sizes and soft plastic lizards.

WHITE RIVER Water levels have been steady and the fishing has improved accordingly. Better-than-average-size rainbow trout are biting white jigs, white and fluorescent yellow PowerBait, flashy Woolly Buggers and crusty scuds. Keep your baits about a foot or more from the river bottom and pull it slowly back home..

NORFORK TAILWATER

The water is stained. It fishes well one day and poorly the next. The most productive flies have been small midge patterns (sizes 18, 20, 22) like ruby midges, root beer midges, zebra midges (black or red with silver wire and silver bead) and soft hackles (sizes 14, 16) like the Green Butt. Egg patterns have also been productive. Double-fly nymph rigs have been very effective. Try a small bead-headed nymph (zebra midge, Copper John or pheasant tail) suspended 18 inches below a brightly colored San Juan worm (hot fluorescent pink or cerise size 10). The fishing is better in the morning.

BEAVER TAILWATER Fly-fishermen are reporting good numbers of trout being caught. The brown trout are spawning, so be aware of the reds in the river and not walk all over them. Fishermen in boats are catching their limits while drifting with PowerBait and waxworm combos. There have been some walleye caught using nightcrawlers, and crawlers also are working well for catching trout.

SPRING RIVER

The river has been very low and clear. Trout have been biting small nymphs and droppers. Fishing a Y2K below an indicator with a small nymph below will produce trout in tough conditions. On overcast days, strip Woollies and big nymphs. No sink tip is needed. Hot pink trout magnets continue to produce near the bottom.

LAKE HAMILTON TAILWATER Trout will be in the tailrace the week of Thanksgiving. White bass continue to be caught by the bridge and close to the dam on live minnows tight-lined over deep water. During times of generation, jerkbaits in a black/silver pattern are effective over sandbars and exposed rock structure. Some striper activity has been observed in the early morning and late evening below the bridge on live shad presented under a balloon. C-10 Redfins and Super Spooks in white will draw vicious strikes from feeding stripers. A few walleye have been taken by anglers trolling shallow-running crankbaits close to shore in the morning before daylight.
