Paroled man called chain-saw attacker

A man on parole for attacking his ex-wife with a chain saw has been accused in a similar assault involving another woman in Hot Spring County, according to authorities.

Robert Shawn Mitchell was arrested Sunday afternoon and was charged with aggravated assault, records show.

The attack occurred Sunday afternoon at a home on Diamond Lakes Circle in Magnet Cove, Sheriff Mike Cash said. The attack was reported around 3 p.m. by someone at the scene.

The victim, a 47-year-old woman, was transported by private vehicle to a hospital, Cash said. The woman had a cut on her wrist that required stitches but the injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to the sheriff's office.

Garland County court records show Mitchell was sentenced in April 2010 to 20 years in prison, with a credit of 521 days already served in jail, as part of a plea agreement on charges of first-degree domestic battering and first-degree criminal mischief.

Cash said Mitchell was recently placed on parole in that assault, which left the victim's arm nearly cut off and chain saw marks down her back.
