Club to hike Roaring River

The Hill 'N Dale Hiking Club will hike Friday at Roaring River State Park near Cassville, Mo.

Hikers can choose from a 4.5-mile trek on the Fire Tower Trail or a 3.8-mile walk on the Eagle Nest Trail. Both are moderate in difficulty.

All hikers are welcome. Bring a sack lunch. Meet at Harps in Bella Vista at 7:30 a.m. to car pool or meet at the park in campsite No. 3 off Missouri F at 9 a.m.

Catch, release season opens

Catch and release trout fishing season opens Friday at Roaring River State Park near Cassville, Mo.

Fishing is allowed Friday through Monday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through mid-February. Fishing is with flies only. All trout caught must be released immediately.

A Missouri fishing license and annual trout permit are required. Daily trout permits are not sold during catch and release season.

Park offers backpacking classes

Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area plans three clinics to help beginning backpackers get started.

The hands-on, overnight trips are designed for people with little to no backpacking experience. They are led by a park interpreter along the 8.5-mile Pigeon Roost Trail.

Participants will need to bring your own food, water and equipment for camping overnight.

All clinics will be held from 2 p.m. until noon on the following dates: Saturday to Sunday; Nov. 24 -- 25; and Dec. 9-10.

Corps offers winter campsites

Winter camping is available through March 31 at Army Corps of Engineers parks at Beaver Lake.

Winter campsites with electricity and flush toilets are available at Dam Site River park and Prairie Creek park. Campsites with electricity and vault restrooms will be available at Lost Bridge North, Horseshoe Bend, and Hickory Creek parks. Water will be available at various locations within each campground.

These campsites are available on a first come, first served basis and camping fees will be collected.

All Army Corps of Engineers managed boat ramps on Beaver Lake will be available year round with the exception of Dam Site North and Horseshoe Bend day use ramps.
