A WOMAN WITH A VISION

Sharon Priest wins agency's top honor

Sharon Priest was honored with a Vision Award by World Services for the Blind (WSB) at a luncheon Oct. 27 at the Little Rock Marriott.

She was presented with a crystal Vision Award made by Tiffany & Co. Priest is a former secretary of state, former Little Rock mayor and was executive director of the Downtown Little Rock Partnership. Former Pulaski County Judge Buddy Villines introduced the honoree, noting that Priest doesn't like to be told "no" and that when she encounters a problem, she figures out a way to get around it.

Before the program, guests were entertained by violinist Everett Elam, who is also a Braille instructor at WSB, and by vocalist Mariam Nabi, a WSB client. David Lippman served as master of ceremonies and remarks were given by Sharon Giovinazzo, president and chief executive officer of World Services for the Blind, and Robert Blachowicz, a graduate of the program.

This year is the 70th anniversary of the organization, which offers life skills and career training programs to the blind and visually impaired.
