Naturalists
Northwest Arkansas Master Naturalists will host Denis Dean, who will present a program titled "Disappearing Ground: Karst, Sinkholes, Caves and More" from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Bella Vista Library, 11 Dickens Place. Learn about the limestone rock underlying all of the counties in northern Arkansas, creating sinkholes, caves, springs and disappearing rivers.
At 5:30 p.m. Nov. 7 Master Naturalist Care Butler will follow up with a school-age program at the library on geology.

Pieces 'N Patches
Pieces 'N Patches quilt group will meet at 12:30 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, 1901 S. 26th St. in Rogers. Our featured guest will be Monte Harris from the Rogers Historical Museum, who will present quilts and their stories.
The group meets at 12:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month for programs and at 10 a.m. on the third Monday for workshops. Snacks will be served on program days and bring your own lunch on workshop days, beverages will be provided. Visitors are welcome.

DAR
The James Bright Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet at 1 p.m. Monday at the Old Bentonville Train Station, 412 S. Main St. in Bentonville. The program, "Thanking Vietnam Veterans," will be given by Sue Thompson, national chairman for genealogical records. Guests are welcome.
Donations of needed items for veterans will be accepted. Reading glasses, forever postage stamps, telephone calling cards, underwear, T-shirts, socks, full-sized toiletry items, wash cloths, flip-flops and Chapstick are needed for the homeless veterans program and the substance abuse clinic.

Garden Club
The Garden Club of Rogers will hold its monthly meeting at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church, on the corner of New Hope Road and 26th Street. The program, "What Makes a Mammal a Mammal," will be delivered by Alan Bland, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Bland has been a park ranger and natural resources specialist for the Army Corps of Engineers for 34 years and a Master Naturalist for eight years. He will test members' knowledge on native plants and wildlife.
There will be a horticulture report, drawings for plant of the month, and a plant and magazine pass-along. Lunch will be catered; reservations are required and must be in by Friday.

The Bella Vista Sunrise Rotary Club will hold a breakfast meeting at 7 a.m. Wednesday in the Concordia Main Building, 1 Concordia Drive in Bella Vista. The speaker will be Mike Neighbors, head coach for the women's basketball team at the University of Arkansas. Guests are welcome.

American Association of University Women Fayetteville branch members and guests will join with the League of Women Voters of Washington County from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Fayetteville Public Library for a program called "Stop Gun Violence, Help Save Lives."
Members of the panel will be Steve Boss, professor of geosciences at the University of Arkansas; Nicole Clowney, advocate for Moms Demand Action; Steven Gahagans, chief of University of Arkansas Police Department; and Greg Leding, Arkansas House of Representatives, District 86. Hill 'N Dale
The Hill 'N Dale Hiking Club of Bella Vista will hike Friday at Roaring River State Park, south of Cassville, Mo. Hike the Fire Tower Trail, a 4.5 mile moderate hike, or the Eagles Nest Trail, a 3.8 mile moderate hike. Carpool departure is 7:30 a.m. from Harps in Bella Vista or meet at campsite three, off Missouri F at 9 a.m. Bring a sack lunch. Nonmembers are welcome.

Chorus
The Bella Vista Women's Chorus will present a Veterans Day concert beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Bella Vista Community Church. The chorus will be joined by the Bella Vista Men's Chorus, Perfect Harmony and the Bentonville High School Chamber Choir in honoring veterans in song.
The concert is a fundraiser for the National Cemetery in Fayetteville and the Veterans Wall of Honor in Bella Vista.

Nature Society
The Flower, Garden and Nature Society of Northwest Arkansas will meet at 10 a.m. Nov. 18 in the student center of Northwest Technical Institute at 709 S. Old Missouri Road in Springdale to hear Colin Massey speak. "Know Your Enemy: Invasive Species of the Ozarks" is the title of his talk. Massey is a county agent for agriculture and water quality for the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service in Washington County. He is currently working on an EPA grant project to conduct water quality outreach and education in Northwest Arkansas.
Social time begins at 9:30 a.m. Membership is not required for first-time visitors.

Legion
National Commander Denise Rohan, the first woman elected as American Legion national commander, will be arriving in Fayetteville Nov. 14.
Beginning at approximately 8:40 a.m., Rohan will attend a briefing by the Veterans Administration and Veterans Administration Volunteer Services and tour the VA Hospital and Veterans Home. Afterwards, she will visit Post 27 in Fayetteville for lunch and to meet with Legionnaires and their families.
A 33-year Legionnaire, the U.S. Army veteran and Wisconsin resident's theme this year is "Family First," which is based on The American Legion's motto of "For God and Country."

Girl Scouts
Join Girl Scouts from across the state for Girl Scouts -- Diamonds signature Girl Fest event from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at Fayetteville High School. Throughout the day, girls will experience and explore the world of science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM), through a variety of activities and workshops. For girls traveling long distances to attend the event, there will be a sleep-over style overnight option Friday night that includes rock climbing and astronomy.
Hands-on workshops and interactive booth activities led by professional women in STEAM careers will give girls a glimpse into several different professional fields. Activities will also include 3D printing, virtual reality and design, coding, wildlife, engineering, robotics, geology and more. Girls will have the option to attend a workshop of their choice each hour and visit the expo hall which will feature booths hosted by University of Arkansas departments, community organizations and local businesses to teach girls about STEAM.
