West Fork man dies in crane accident

WHEELER -- A man died after being hit by a large crane, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Central EMS responded Thursday afternoon to a call about an unresponsive male at 17614 Clear Water Road in the Wheeler community, according to a sheriff's office press release Friday.

Employees with Multi-Craft Contractors were setting up a large crane to work on a radio tower. The crane was set and leveled, and the employees were putting the boom together, according to the release.

During this process, a 25-foot-long piece of the crane fell, striking Clarence "Cory" Hale, 48, of West Fork and pinning him to the ground, according to the release.

Hale was taken by Central EMS to Washington Regional Medical Center where he died from his injuries, according to the release.

The body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to confirm cause of death.
