Last Flag Flying premiere film in El Dorado

The Southeast premiere of Richard Linklater's new movie, Last Flag Flying, will highlight the opening day of the 4th annual El Dorado Film Festival. The festival runs from Thurday through Nov. 12.

The film, which has been described as a quasi-sequel to Hal Ashby's classic 1973 film The Last Detail, stars Steve Carell, Laurence Fishburne and Bryan Cranston as Navy buddies who reunite 30 years after their service in Vietnam on the occasion of the funeral of one of their sons, a Marine killed in the Iraq War.

The Film Festival is in partnership with the South Arkansas Arts Center, which will be one of the viewing locations along with the Griffin Music Hall in the Murphy Arts District. This year more than 300 films were submitted from 50 countries.

In addition to the showings there will be panel workshops, including one by Australian producer Robbie Miles on how to pitch to investors and how to be a successful producer while not living in Los Angeles. Another workshop will feature Martha Stephens, Arkansas-based producer Kerri Elder, and Kristin Mann on the current local/regional filmmaking landscape. Stephens has screened her films at many prestigious film festivals nationally, including 2014's Sundance Film Festival.

For tickets and more information see the festival's website at eldofilmfest.com and/or the Murphy Arts District site at eldomad.com.
