Pulaski County jail deputy fired over force seen in video

A Pulaski County jail deputy was fired earlier this year after video showed her using possible excessive force on an inmate, according to a termination letter released Thursday.

The Sept. 19 letter explains the incident was recorded Aug. 23 and involved Deputy Shawntosha Elliott, 25. Elliott's assignment was listed as being a member of the intake division in the detention branch of the sheriff's office.

A review of video at the jail showed "excessive force may have been used" during an encounter with an inmate, resulting in an internal investigation, the document states.

A meeting Sept. 19 in Pulaski County Sheriff Doc Holladay's office concluded that Elliott had violated three standards of conduct.

Those were dishonesty or untruthfulness; displaying competent performances and achieving competent performance results; and knowing, observing and obeying all directives, rules, policies, procedures practices and traditions.
