HOT SPOTS

LAKE OUACHITA Fishing is good for largemouth and Kentucky bass. Try a drop shot rig with a finesse worm for Kentucky bass. Anglers are catching walleyes on spoons near main lake humps and points near brush. Striper fishing is fair with live bait in the central part of the lake. Crappie fishing is good with minnows in depths of 20-30 feet near structure. Catfish are biting live bait and stink bait on trotlines or jugs in depths of 20-30 feet.

DEGRAY LAKE Largemouth bass are biting early in the morning between the mid-lake and the upper end around Shouse Ford and Cox Creek with medium-running crankbaits across main lake points. Lipless crankbaits, like Rat-L-Traps, are working, too. Use natural shad in clear water and something with chartreuse in stained water. Lots of Kentucky bass are on the bluff banks between points 14 and 15, also on the west side of Goat Island. Try a 4-inch Texas rigged finesse worm in green pumpkin or red shad. Crappie are biting near brush attractors in depths of 18-20 feet between Point 14 and Point Cedar. Try a 2-inch Kalin’s Grub on a 1/16-ounce jighead over the thickest part of the brush. Tennessee Shad and black/chartreuse have been the best colors.

LAKE GREEN Bass are biting well using a variety of techniques. Spinnerbaits around shallow brush are working well. Pitch a jig in the brush for the better quality bites. Bass continue to school in all parts of the lake early and late and can be caught using Super Spook Jrs., Booyah One Knockers, Cotton Cordell Spots and small swimbaits. Worms (watermelon and green pumpkin) on shaky heads or drop-shots are working well on points. Crappie are being caught in and around brush in depths of 15-20 feet depth using Kalin’s Grubs or minnows.
