Brightwater chefs to represent United States in Russian expo

Two Brightwater chefs will represent the United States to Russia's Megustro on Tuesday, the Northwest Arkansas Community College division announced today.

Brightwater: A Center for the Study of Food is a facet of NWACC that focuses on the culinary arts.

"Megustro is one of the largest events for the restaurant operators in Russia," according to a press release. "The expo will include the latest trends, inspiration, new ideas, interesting communication and creativity in the restaurant industry."

The two chefs representing America are Michael Kuefner, a professional chef and lead culinary instructor at Brightwater, and Rob Nelson, owner and executive chef of Tusk and Trotter. Both will be highlighting their work on zero waste programs, according to the press release.

"Our participation in the Megustro expo represents an unbelievable opportunity to gain global inspiration and insight to bring back to Northwest Arkansas for benefit of Northwest Arkansas' burgeoning culinary ecosystem," Nelson said in a press release.

Chefs from Germany, France, Italy, Japan, China and Spain will also attend the expo.

"We are living through a critical moment in U.S.-Russia relations," David Leishman, director of the U.S. Agricultural Trade Office in Russia, said in the release. "While there are many areas of profound disagreement that are compounded by trade sanctions, the Megustro event offers a great opportunity for positive and mutually beneficial engagement. Russia's culinary community is developing rapidly, and we see great interest in American food and cuisine. As we invite Brightwater to Russia, we are helping to build bridges for the future."
