MUSICAL CHAIRS

Symphony Guild luncheon includes business, pleasure

The rain held off, much to the appreciation of those who attended the Arkansas Symphony Guild's Spring Luncheon on May 18.

The event, which took place at the Governor's Mansion, was hosted by first lady Susan Hutchinson. Guests enjoyed a meal of shrimp and grits and heard a powerful piano performance of a Beethoven piece by Duane Chen, winner of the symphony's 2017 Stella Boyle Smith Young Artist Competition and a student at Little Rock's Episcopal Collegiate High School.

Michael Upson, outgoing president, steered the meeting, which included the installation of new officers headed by 2017-2018 president Ouida Keck. Other new officers are Nikki Lawson, first vice president and president-elect; Susan Marsh, second vice president/member services; Dale Ronnel, third vice president/music education; Gail Davis, fourth vice president/orchestra services; Camille Williams, treasurer; Nancy Cole, assistant treasurer; Paige James, fundraising chairman; George Keck, recording secretary; and Betty Herron and Debbie Bass, members at large.

Upson also presented Christina Littlejohn, chief executive officer of the orchestra, with a $50,000 donation to the Endowed Timpani Chair.
