Work on I-49 closes lanes

LOWELL -- Construction work on Interstate 49 in Rogers, Lowell and Springdale requires overnight lane closings, according to Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department officials.

Beginning tonight, crews will pave lanes and remove barrier walls on northbound and southbound I-49. The inside and outside lanes will alternately be closed from Wagon Wheel Road, Exit 76, to New Hope Road, Exit 83.

The overnight closings will run through Saturday morning, weather permitting. Traffic will be controlled using signage and barrels.

• Northbound I-49 lane closings will occur between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

• Southbound I-49 lane closings will occur between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The project is part of AHTD's Connecting Arkansas Program and includes widening five miles of I-49 to three lanes in each direction. The work extends from West Monroe Avenue, Arkansas 264, in Lowell to New Hope Road in Rogers, and it is expected to be completed later this year. More information on the $38.7 million project is available at ConnectingArkansasProgram.com.

Drivers should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ArkansasHighways.com.
