Mercy set to begin nursing residency

Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas will begin a nursing residency program this summer with 26 nurses. The 12-month program will include orientation classes, continuing education and monthly meetings where nurses can discuss issues they encounter.

Nurses also will be placed in an assigned unit with a mentor for one-on-one clinical experience. Residency nurses will be hired to work in a specific department, but the residency program will include multidisciplinary work that allows the new nurses to work and observe in other departments.

Animal Hospital gets new owner, vet

Dr. Randall Betts recently become the new owner and lead veterinarian of Springdale Animal Hospital at 2903 W. Huntsville Ave. The hospital has been open for six years and celebrated the ownership change with a ribbon cutting Saturday.

Betts graduated from the University of Missouri in 2007. He has been practicing small-animal medicine and surgery since graduation and moved to Northwest Arkansas in 2012.

Metro Appliances opens store in Lowell

Metro Appliances & More moved last week from Springdale to Lowell. The store opened at 801 Metro Place on the northwest corner of Arkansas 264 and Interstate 49.

The 130,000-square-foot location includes a 60,000-square-foot showroom, which features all types of major appliances. The facility has also dedicated 10,000 square feet of space to outdoor living, featuring grills, outdoor appliances and patio furniture.

The company was founded in 1974 in Tulsa and has nine locations in four states.
