Bentonville High 5, Greenwood 4

Jordan Gartman's seventh-inning triple drove in Amy Springer with the winning run as Bentonville slipped past Greenwood in a nonconference game Tuesday at the Tiger Athletic Complex.

Morgan Nelson belted a leadoff single to start the seventh and was replaced by Springer as a pinch-hitter. Gartman then delivered her shot over the centerfielder's head and to the fence, allowing Springer to score.

The win was the 300th of Bentonville coach Kent Early's career, but it didn't come easy. Greenwood scored two runs in the sixth to tie the game, then head runners at the corners with one out in the seventh.

Bentonville (27-1) provided the defense and threw two runners out at the plate. Maddy Prough threw home to get the second out, then the Lady Tigers ended the inning with another out at the plate after catching a Greenwood runner in a rundown.

Prough (20-1) was not at her best, allowing four runs on eight hits. The senior right-hander struck out eight, with her fourth one coming to start the third and giving her 200 for the season.

Bentonville now heads to the Class 7A state tournament, where the defending champion is the top seed from the 7A-West and will play at noon Friday against Thursday's winner between Conway and Bentonville West.

Cabot 6, Bentonville West 4

Hannah Montgomery's two-run double in the fourth inning inning proved to be the difference as Cabot knocked off West in nonconference action Monday at Cabot.

Montgomery's double came West (20-13) had rallied and tied the game in the top half of the inning. Karlie Stafford had a two-run single in the inning, while Sydney Sneed and Alyssa Cordell each added an RBI single.

Anna Griffin had two hits for the Lady Wolverines, who plays Cabot during Thursday's opening round of the Class 7A state tournament in Fayetteville.

Girls Soccer

Rogers Heritage 3, Van Buren 1

The Lady War Eagles jumped to a 2-0 halftime lead and cruised to the win Monday at Gates Stadium to secure the No. 5 seed in next week's state tournament

Lanee Knight had a goal and an assist, while Grace Rodriguez added two assists. Sarah Setzer added one goal for Heritage (6-13, 5-9 7A-West). Van Buren finished 1-19 and 0-14 in the 7A-West.

Boys Soccer

Rogers High 2, Fayetteville 1

Alex Balderas and Alex Valdez scored one goal each to give the Mounties the 7A-West Conference win Monday at Whitey Smith Stadium.

David Salinas assisted on Balderas' goal, while Valdez made a penalty kick for the Mounties (13-5, 11-3 7A-West). Rogers will be the No. 2 seed in next week's state tournament. Fayetteville finished 5-14 and 2-12 in the 7A-West.
