The University of Arkansas lauded benefactors at Towers of Old Main on April 21 at the Fayetteville Town Center. The biennial black-tie dinner is held to induct members into the Towers of Old Main -- those who have reached significant milestones in their giving to the university.

UA Chancellor Joseph Steinmetz presented Chancellor's Medals to Towers Sandra M. and Robert C. Connor and Margaret M. Whillock in recognition of their support and service to the university and dedication to higher education.

The Connors were presented the medal "for their tremendous support of faculty and students at the university and their leadership as volunteers." They established an endowed fellowship in 2002 for assistant professors in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, support student scholarships and serve as treasurers for the Campaign Arkansas steering committee, for which they were co-chairmen for two years.

Those giving gratitude for giving include Susan and UA President Don Bobbitt, Sandy and UA Chancellor Joseph Steinmetz, Deborah Thomas and David Malone, Ann Marie Ziegler, Denise and Hershey Garner, Sandy Edwards, Sara and Jeff Koenig, Sylvia and Tommy Boyer, Angela and UA Trustee Mark Waldrip and Jane and Dave Gearhart.

The Walton Arts Center marked the silver anniversary of its first performance with a Friends Reception on April 24 at the center in Fayetteville.

The first performance was of Phil and Fred's No Fuss Journey, a play written by the late Roger Gross, who died April 23, directed by his wife, Patricia Relph, and presented as a collaboration with Arts Live! and the Young Author's Project at Northwest Arkansas Education Service Cooperative.

Peter Lane, chief executive officer, told those gathered the arts center has become a national industry leader and has redefined what a performing arts center is.

The arts center kicked off "Artosphere: Arkansas' Arts + Nature Festival" Thursday; it will run through May 20.

Those marking the milestone with the arts center included Cynthia Coughlin, Mary Ann and Reed Greenwood, Deeg and Bill Mitchell, Marti and Kelly Sudduth, Keith Ekenseair, Betty and Eddy Bradford, Debbie and Tim Ogg, Mary Lynn Reese, Pamm and Paul Prebil, Margaret Whillock, Deborah Thomas and David Malone, Ann Rosso, Carol Caldwell and Ed Clifford, Barb Putman and Mike Johson.
