A baker’s dozen Northwest Arkansas Kiwanis Clubs have sponsored an annual fun walk to benefit Arkansas Children’s Hospital since 1995. Sharon Horwart of the Springdale Kiwanis Club, walk co-chairman, said the groups are narrowing the focus of the effort beginning with this year’s walk May 13. Club members look to raise $150,000 in the next three years for Arkansas Children’s Hospital Northwest, under construction in Springdale with an anticipated January opening.

The Northwest Arkansas campus will serve more than 200,000 children in 11 counties.

Race-day activities will include drawings for door prizes (for children and adults), face painting and other children’s activities, hot dogs, fresh fruit, juice and water.

Horwart said teams of walkers are encouraged to join the family friendly fundraiser.

The planned $150,000 donation to the hospital foundation will make Northwest Arkansas Kiwanis Clubs part of the organization’s Arkansas Children’s Caring Community, “a core group of corporations, foundations and individuals who are leading the fundraising efforts” for the Springdale campus.

The walk will take place at the Har-Ber High School track in Springdale. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the walk will begin at 9 a.m. Registration is $15 per walker, or children 12 and younger may bring a new toy or book to donate to the hospital.
