Road-project bids OK'd for 4 towns

The Arkansas Highway Commission has approved bids for repairs to roadways in Sevier and Polk counties.

The Sevier County projects will resurface 1.4 miles of city streets in De Queen, including Ninth Street, Gilson Avenue, Stilwell Avenue, Wallace Avenue and Driver Avenue. The contract was awarded to Tri-State Asphalt of De Queen for $318,157.25.

Polk County projects will resurface streets within the towns of Hatfield, Cove and Wickes. The work includes a half-mile of Mershon Drive in Hatfield; 1.5 miles of various city streets in Cove, including Lewis Street and Barton Avenue; and 1.3 miles of various city streets in Wickes, including Oak Grove Road and U.S. 71.

Crow Paving of Morrilton was awarded the contract for the Polk work for a total of $737,542.09.

Construction will begin in two to four weeks, weather permitting.
