Fire destroys home near Strickler

A home and workshop burned down near Strickler on Thursday night. The fire spread to nearby trees and burned several vehicles as wind whipped up the flames to dangerous conditions, said Mark Myers, West Fork fire chief.

No one was hurt in the blaze.

Firefighters from several agencies fought the fire around 4:30 p.m. at 21027 Carter Road. The home and shop were completely consumed with flames when firefighters arrived, Myers said. The wind pushed the flames into trees and burned three or four vehicles, he said. Another building was also starting to catch fire, he said.

It took about four hours to put out the fire, Myers said. Firefighters saved several buildings.

One person was home at the time of the fire but was able to get out, Myers said.

Wade Bates owns two homes on about 60 acres near West Fork, where the fire broke out, according to county property records. The property is estimated to be worth about $152,800.

The Washington County Fire Marshall's Office is investigating the cause of the fire, Myers said.
