Komen race season kicks off

Chase Family Foundation backers and area chefs helped raise more than $30,000 and let the good times roll at the foundation's Chase the Blues Away Mardi Gras benefit Feb. 28 at the Fayetteville Town Center.

The group's main focus is senior hunger and food challenges. To that end, since 2009, the foundation has donated some 45,000 pounds of food to more than 970 Northwest Arkansas seniors.

Those chasing the blues away with the foundation included Susan Chase and Johnny Bakker, Corrine and Terry Smith, Becky Wood, Penny Storms, Rose Ann Pearce, Nita Cooper, Tonya Martin, Nancy Hairston, Sarah and James Widmer, Ceri and Rolf Wilkin and Cindy Hudlow.

The Ozark Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure's top fundraisers, team captains, sponsors, race committee, grantees and board members convened March 1 at Crabby's Seafood Bar & Grill in Rogers to help the group officially kick off the Race for the Cure season.

The race, the nonprofit organization's largest fundraiser, is set for April 22 at Pinnacle Hills Promenade in Rogers.

Seventy-five percent of all money raised stays in the community in the form of grants helping support local breast cancer programs, with the remainder going toward national research. Area grant recipients include Community Clinic, Donald W. Reynolds Cancer Support House, Hope Cancer Resources and Madison County Health Coalition.

Among those kicking off race season were Latriece Watkins, race honorary chairwoman; Nicole Bagley, Kari Nikolish, Vicki Cowling, Betsy Reithemeyer, Sue Redfield, Jenna Johnston, Betty Logsdom, Cara Stewart, Debbie Kocks and Essa Hicks.

Fashionistas, models, designers and other artists gathered March 2 at 21c Museum Hotel in Bentonville for the Spring 2017 Northwest Arkansas Fashion Week: The Gala. Proceeds from the inaugural event will aid NWA Fashion Week. The organization has the mission of "supporting the development of fashion design and industry in Northwest Arkansas."

Those helping kick off Fashion Week Festivities at the Gala included Nancy Martin and Alan Lewis, Dallas Musick, Sam Oswald, Michelle Australie, Tony Waller, Jacquelyn Queen, Marcy and Juan Camacho, Deidre Miller, Courtney Norton, Erik Trujillo, Rochelle Bailey and CiCi Sanchez.
