Soccer: Maxwell key in Siloam Springs' shutout of Greenwood

SILOAM SPRINGS -- Audrey Maxwell recorded a hat trick and an assist to lead the Siloam Springs Lady Panthers to a 6-0 victory over the visiting Greenwood Bulldogs on Thursday night.

"I thought we played really well," said Siloam Springs soccer coach Brent Crenshaw. "Overall, I'm pretty pleased with what we've done here before spring break."

Siloam Springs (8-2) goes into the break having scored 35 goals in the past nine matches. The Lady Panthers improve to 8-2 on the season and the Lady Bulldogs fall to 3-7.

"We were just out-hustled, out-played. Siloam is a great team," said Greenwood coach Andrew Post. "We're a little bit intimidated by Siloam. We can't play that way every game."

"We definitely need to improve by the next conference game. We have the potential to improve quite a bit."

Maxwell opened the scoring in the 21st minute of play after taking a pass in close and chipping a shot past Greenwood (3-7) keeper Carley Zirbel.

Two minutes later, Maxwell struck again after creating a turnover about 25 yards from the goal, which she sent into the right side of the net, making the score 2-0.

A second turnover caused by Maxwell led to the next Lady Panthers goal. Maxwell intercepted a pass a few feet outside of the penalty box, turned and dropped the ball off to Brooklyn Buckminster, who sent a shot straight at Zirbel. The Greenwood keeper dropped into position, but lost control of the ball as it squeaked through her hands and into the goal.

Siloam Springs dominated the first half of play, taking a 9-0 lead on shots on goal into the second half. The Lady Bulldogs would not register a shot until the final 10 minutes of the match.

Maxwell finished her hat trick just three minutes into the second half on a pass from Hadley Crenshaw, who found Maxwell with a pass in space 15 yards from the goal on the right side. Maxwell beat one defender before sending her shot high short side and in.

Sydney Bomstad and Megan Hutto also contributed goals in the win. Anna Claire Lewis recorded the clean sheet, and Brooke Hutto made two saves after substituting for Lewis late in the game.

Bentonville High 12, Van Buren 0

Emma Welch and Lauren Hargus each recorded a hat trick as Bentonville routed Van Buren in the Lady Tigers' home opener.

Six other players had a goal apiece for Bentonville (5-1, 2-0 7A-West), which bolted to a 10-0 lead at halftime.

Springdale Har-Ber 4, Springdale High 1

Har-Ber used three first-half goals to run away with its first 7A-West win of the season Thursday night at Wildcat Stadium.
