Arkansas man killed after tractor-trailer crosses median on I-40, overturns, police say

A Bismarck man died after the tractor-trailer he was driving Thursday morning crossed the median on Interstate 40 and overturned in Prairie County, according to state police.

Timothy Ray Cockman, 48, was traveling east on I-40 at mile marker 190, which is about 5 miles west of Fredonia, around 6 a.m., the Arkansas State Police said in a preliminary report.

At one point, the Freightliner went through cables, crossed the median into westbound traffic and overturned, the report noted.

Cockman was killed as a result of the crash. No other injures were reported.

A 10th-of-a-mile stretch of the westbound lanes of I-40 had been closed earlier Thursday due to the accident, according to the state Highway and Transportation Department.

Those lanes reopened as of 8 a.m., the department said in a tweet.

Travel conditions at the time of the crash were described in the report as clear and dry.

Cockman's death was one of 85 reported so far this year on an Arkansas road, according to preliminary figures.
