State math event announces victors

The Arkansas Council of Teachers of Mathematics recently announced the top performers in the organization’s annual statewide math competition.

To be invited to participate in the state contest, students had to place first, second or third in a math-subject test at their regional competitions in March. There are about a dozen regional competitions each year.

The state competition in each subject area is one hour and made up of multiple-choice questions generated by university faculty from across the state. The winners in algebra I and geometry received graphing calculators. Scholarships of $200 to $500 were provided to the top three finishers in the other subject areas.
