PHI KAPPA PHI

Two local students recently were initiated into Phi Kappa Phi, the nationwide collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Membership is by invitation and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership.

Kaitlin Shields of Centerton was initiated at Auburn (Ala.) University, and Elise Rippelmeyer of Fayetteville was initiated at University of South Alabama in Mobile.

UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS

AT FORT SMITH

Keimi Driscoll of Fort Smith, a student at University of Arkansas at Fort Smith, interns this summer with a grant from the Washington Center, working with the International Division of the National Conference of State Legislatures. She will research international political issues and help prepare the group’s Legislative Summit in August in Boston.

Driscoll is a nontraditional student at UAFS, studying political science and international business.

GREENVILLE COLLEGE

George Black of Rogers has been named to the spring 2017 dean’s list at Greenville (Ill.) College.

COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS

Several local students graduated May 7 during 2017 commencement ceremonies at College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Mo.

IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY

Several local students were named to the spring 2017 dean’s list at Iowa State University in Ames, earning grade-point averages of 3.5 or higher. They include Ian Dexter of Cave Springs, Joshua Baedke of Fayetteville and John Lavey of Siloam Springs.

WILLIAM JEWELL HONORS

Local students were named to the spring 2017 dean’s list at William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo., with grade-point averages of 3.7 or higher. They included Lindsay Glynn of Bentonville, Meghan Scholtens of Berryville, Brooke Huston of Rogers and John Parmer of Springdale.

WILLIAM JEWELL GRADS

Three local students earned degrees from William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo., during the spring 2017 commencement ceremony May 7. Lane Bland of Bentonville earned a bachelor’s degree in biology; Meghan Scholtens of Berryville, bachelor’s, nursing; and Lauren Hoenig of Rogers, bachelor’s, nursing.

WESTMINSTER COLLEGE

A number of local students were named to the spring 2017 dean’s list at Westminster College located in Fulton, Mo. Zachary Evers of Centerton, Gordon Allison of Fayetteville, John Stuckey of Fayetteville, John Moorman of Gravette and Sandra Mondragon of Springdale.

ROGERS STATE UNIVERSITY

Local students were named to the spring 2017 honor roll at Rogers State University in Claremore, Okla., with grade-point averages of 4.0: Lauren E. Schuldtt of Fayetteville, Leah D. Maxwell of Siloam Springs and Carlye M. Bohannan of Springdale.

ST. CLOUD STATE UNIVERSITY

Anurag Pasnoor of Bentonville graduated from St. Cloud (Minn.) State University during the spring 2017 commencement ceremony May 5, with a master’s degree of engineering management.

MISSOURI VALLEY COLLEGE

Local students have been named to the spring 2107 dean’s list at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, with grade-point averages of 3.3 or higher. They include Ashley Ward of Bentonville, Holland Craise of Prairie Grove and Dallas Hopping of Rogers.

UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS

Samuel Lipson of Fayetteville and Andrew Palmer of Bentonville, incoming freshmen to the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, honors college, have been selected to receive $70,000 Bodenhamer Fellowships. Students must score at least a 32 on the ACT and have a grade point average of 3.8 or higher. Extracurricular activities, community service and evidence of leadership, intellectual curiosity and creativity are also considered in the selection process.

Lipson is a graduate of Haas Hall Academy in Fayetteville and plans to major in management. He is the son of Sherri and Andrew Lipson.

Palmer is a graduate of Bentonville High School and plans to major in biology. He is the son of Janet and Philip Palmer.

The $70,000 awards cover tuition, as well as possible study abroad, attendance at professional and educational conferences, research and special equipment. On July 31, the new class of Bodenhamer Fellows will travel to New York City for a five-day trip that includes visits to the Statue of Liberty, the Guggenheim Museum, the United Nations and the Empire State Building.

MCPHERSON COLLEGE

Samuel Harris of Bentonville has been named to the spring 2017 honor roll at McPherson (Kan.) College, with a grade-point average of 3.55 or higher.

MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY

Missouri State University in Springfield has listed a number of local students on the spring 2017 dean’s list, with grade-point averages of 3.5 or higher.

ROCKHURST UNIVERSITY

Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo. awarded degrees to two local students during the 2017 commencement ceremony May 13.

Haven Herndon of Fayetteville earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology. Meagan Dardas of Harrison earned a bachelor of science in communication science and disorders and Spanish, and graduated summa cum laude.

NORTHWEST ARKANSAS

COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Northwest Arkansas Community College’s Enactus team won second place at the national level for their project, with the Oasis coffee shop on campus, Team members included Jennifer Vehon, Rafael Amezcua, Eric Matthews, Christine Wedel, Anne Merces, Yaeli Yang, Emanuela Quercia and Veronica Munoz. The team’s award was presented at the Rally of Champions at National Expo on May 21 in Kansas City, Mo.

Under the leadership of Sam M. Walton fellows Jehiah Burchfield and Chris Neyland, the Enactus team worked with the women of Oasis to enhance and expand operations with new product lines, improved and expanded catering, opened a second location and trained for the Oasis staff in computer literacy, conflict resolution and management principles.

The award was specifically in response to activities related to Wal-mart’s women’s empowerment grant, which the team at NWACC received for the second year in a row. This goal of the grant is to empower women, using Enactus teams to provide workforce development training and entrepreneurial education.
