Mayor won't seek 3rd Benton term

Benton Mayor David Mattingly will not seek re-election next fall, according to a news release from his office Wednesday.

Mattingly, 75, was first elected mayor in 2010 at an annual salary of $68,000. He is in his second term and has more than 16 months remaining in his term.

Mattingly's announcement comes during a time of rapid growth for the city that includes several projects, including the widening of Alcoa Road, construction of a fire and police substation at Arkansas 5, the construction of a farmer's market and the development of plans for a new animal control shelter.
