Man dies 10 days after Pulaski County jail distress

A 36-year-old man died Monday after he was found "in distress" at the Pulaski County jail earlier this month and hospitalized, authorities said.

Kenneth Lawrence was pronounced dead Monday at UAMS Medical Center, according to a written statement from Lt. Cody Burk, a Pulaski County sheriff's office spokesman.

The statement said Lawrence was brought to the jail on June 8, and the next day around 8:53 a.m., a deputy noticed the inmate was "in distress." Emergency medical personnel then took him to the hospital, according to the statement.

Later that morning, after he was taken to the hospital, a court order released Lawrence from custody. He was charged with probation violation and failure to pay, according to the statement.

Further information about the death was not available Monday night.
