Airport tower named best facility of '16

The control tower at Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport in Highfill was named the 2016 Facility of the Year by Robinson Aviation Inc. of Oklahoma City. Robinson Aviation provides air traffic control tower services at 97 airports in the Southeast and Southern United States under contract with the Federal Aviation Administration.

The Northwest Arkansas airport is one of a few FAA contract towers that provides air traffic services to many high-performance aircraft, commercial and corporate, on instrument flight plans.

Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport is the fourth-busiest FAA contract tower for aircraft on instrument flight plans.

Facility of the year selection criteria includes internal and external audit results, customer satisfaction and airport manager surveys, air traffic safety record, employee involvement and resource management.

Peterbilt truck dealer joins partnership

The Larson Group, a Peterbilt truck dealer with 21 facilities across the nation, including Lowell, is taking part in a partnership between the group's original equipment manufacturer, Peterbilt Motors Co., and the National Joint Powers Alliance.

The partnership gives municipalities and not-for-profit organizations the ability to purchase Peterbilt trucks without undergoing a traditional bidding process. The program also enables vendors to purchase trucks directly from dealer stock.

Tyson Foods plant earns safety award

Tyson Foods' Randall Wobbe Cornish Plant at 671 W. Randall Wobbe Lane in Springdale earned the 15 Million Man Hour Safety Award.

The plant's 350 employees accumulated 15 million work hours without a lost day of work due to a work-related injury or illness between Feb. 26, 1999, and May 6, 2017.

The Arkansas Department of Labor, the Arkansas Insurance Department and the Arkansas Workers' Compensation Commission offer the award to state companies that excel in on-the-job safety.

Mercy Clinic opens at Chaffee Crossing

Officials from Mercy Clinic Fort Smith and the Arkansas Colleges of Health Education celebrated the opening of the new Mercy Clinic at Chaffee Crossing with an open house and blessing Monday.

Mercy Clinic Fort Smith and the college collaborated to build the 13,500-square-foot, $7.9 million clinic on property the college owns at Chaffee Crossing. The clinic features 28 exam rooms, X-ray unit, triage, laboratory and conference space to accommodate training requirements of the medical school's residency program.

The clinic houses eight physicians, three advance-practice nurses and about 30 additional staff members.

The Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine's students and graduates will have clinical training at the facility, which is located across from the college. The school will welcome its first class of 150 students this fall.

Chamber is awarded top accreditation

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce awarded the Springdale Chamber of Commerce with 5-Star Accreditation for its policies, organizational procedures and impact on the community. This honor puts the Springdale Chamber among the top 1 percent of chambers nationwide.

A chamber must meet minimum standards in nine core competencies, including operations and programs, areas of governance and finance, government affairs and technology, to receive accreditation.

Siloam Springs greets ice cream shop

Pure Joy Ice Cream celebrated its grand opening Thursday at 108 N. Broadway, Siloam Springs. Matt Feyerabend is the company's founder and owner.

The ice cream company started in 2012 and has focused on wholesale and special events. This is the company's first scoop shop.

The scoop shop is open noon-10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 2-9 p.m. Sunday.
