• Redmon Williams of Black Rock, yesterday was tried by the general court-martial on a charge of mayhem. About one month ago Williams lost two fingers on his left hand, and was charged with cutting them off to avoid further military duty. The fingers were cleanly severed at the second knuckle, and a bloody hatchet was found in a latrine near by. Williams' rifle had been discharged also, and he said that the fingers had been shot off by accident. No proceedings of the court-martial yesterday were made public, but were forwarded to Maj. Gen. Leonard Wood at Charleston for review.

SEARCY -- The government is doing everything to encourage the spread of AIDS because of a powerful, organized homosexual lobby, Gene Antonio, author of "The AIDS Coverup," said Tuesday. Antonio, a psychologist, spoke about acquired immune deficiency syndrome to about 350 high school juniors and seniors at Harding University. AIDS is a contagious disease that destroys the body's immune system. It is incurable and usually fatal. "It is not a civil issue, but homosexuals are using it," Antonio said. "High-ranking government people are involved, and it stinks."
