MORRILTON -- Conway County Sheriff Marlin Hawkins said Sunday that three prisoners sawed their way out of the County Jail Saturday night. Hawkins identified the men as Monroe Ridling Jr. 23, of Morrilton; Lawrence R. Broussard, 34, of Russellville; and Paul R. Sass, 39, of Milwaukee, Wis. Hawkins said that the men used a hacksaw to cut the bars out of the jail's shower room and used a rope made of mattress covers to escape from the top floor of the three story building.

• A Little Rock man described as having a "fatal attraction" for his estranged wife was convicted Thursday of second-degree murder in her shooting death. Ricky Lavalle Crook, 28, was sentenced to 20 years in prison after a Pulaski County Circuit Court jury found him guilty of "knowingly" causing the death of Michelle Crook, 25. The sentence, imposed by Circuit Judge John Langston, was the maximum for the charge. Crook had been charged with first-degree murder, punishable by 10 to 40 years or life in prison, but the jury reduced the charge.

• A Pulaski County circuit judge will hold a second hearing before deciding the fate of a pit bull terrier that bit a boy's leg in May. Judge Ellen Brantley decided Monday that dog owner Laura Hingle had not had enough time to respond to a motion filed May 25 by North Little Rock and Pulaski County. The two governments seek permanent custody of Hingle's dog, Outcast, who bit 11-year-old Damien Breedlove. Breedlove was bitten on his left calf while visiting Hingle's nieces May 15. He was hospitalized afterward and now faces a second surgery because his first skin graft did not take completely.
