Courtesy photo Students at Greenwood High School and Charleston High School were able to showcase May 8 the knowledge they’ve gained through concurrent credit robotics courses from the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith when they programmed a robot to serve coffee from a Keurig coffee maker. The students programmed the robots to open the Keurig, grab a K-Cup, place it in the Keurig and start the brewing process. After the coffee brewed the robot took the coffee and poured it into a separate cup. The students are taking the robotics courses regional workforce grants from the Arkansas Department of Higher Education to help train students for emerging workfore needs.

Full Sail University

Samantha Reed received her bachelor of science degree in game development May 5, 2017, from Full Sail University in Winter Park, Fla. She was recipient of four directors awards: programmingm project and portfolio, applied human computer interaction and computer networks. She also received the perfect attendance award, the advanced achievement award and was named valedictorian of her class.

Louisiana State University

The Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in Baton Rouge conferred doctor of veterinary medicine degrees to several local students during the 2017 veterinary medicine commencement exercises.

Alexandra Canfield of Fayetteville will join a small animal practice in Elgin, Texas; Aubren Cabe, of Greenwood will join a small animal practice in Little Rock.

Henderson graduates

Spring commencement ceremonies were held May 12 at Henderson State University. Local graduates include:

Missouri Southern

State University

Several local students have been named to the spring 2017 dean's list at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, with grade-point average of 3.75 or better.

University of Saint Mary

Traci Rohde of Bella Vista received a bachelor science nursing degree during the 2017 commencement ceremony May 13 at the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kan.

University of Central Arkansas

The University of Central Arkansas in Conway has accepted several local students to study in the Norbert O. Schedler Honors College. Acceptance comes with access to UCA's top scholarship, access to a living-learning community and participation in an interdisciplinary curriculum with opportunities for service learning, project-based education, collaborative work, undergraduate research, travel abroad opportunities and internship support. Students were chosen based on their academic performances, service and leadership potential.

Local students include Tiffany Aguilar, Javier Hernandez and Taylor Umbarger, all of Rogers; Jennifer Cale, Harper Foster and Audrey McCalister, all of Fayetteville; Daniela Castillo, Peyton Earp and Sarah English, all of Springdale; Amanda Dibee, Alexis Johnson and Vincz Ong, all of Rogers; and Micah Duncan of Prairie Grove.

Rockhurst University

Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo., named several local students to the spring 2017 dean's list, with grade-point averages of 3.5 or higher.

Students included Jillian Myers of Cedarville, Lauren Krissman of Fort Smith, Samantha Roth of Gravette, Meagan Dardas of Harrison, Scott Schaeffer of Rogers and Robert LaMendola of Springdale.

Henderson honor rolls

Henderson State University in Arkadelphia listed a number of Northwest Arkansas students on its graduate and undergraduate spring 2017 dean's lists and honor rolls.

Students named to the dean's list achieved grade-point averages of 4.0. MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, Kan., named area students to its spring 2017 honor rolls. McKenna Bearden of Decatur was named to the president's list, with a grade-point average of 4.0. Macie Jones of Rogers is listed on the honor roll, with a grade-point average of 3.2 to 3.49.

Williams Baptist College

Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge awarded degrees to several local students during its 2017 commencement exercises May 13. The graduates recognized as cum laude, graduated with cumulative grade-point averages of 3.5 to 3.69.

Graceland University

Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, named two local students to the spring 2017 honor rolls. Regenia Hilton of Fort Smith was named to the dean's list, with a grade-point average of 3.25 to 3.64. Keely Compton of Roger was named to the honors list, with a grade-point average etween 3.65 and 3.99.

Ouachita Baptist University

Several Northwest Arkansas students at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia will be included in the latest edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. The students were chosen by the school's faculty, staff and the 2017 senior class, based on academic performance, leadership in extracurricular activities, community service and potential for success.

The following Ouachita students from Arkansas will be included in Who's Who:

• Staci Gore of Centerton, a finance, business administration and management double major. Her accomplishments include president's and dean's lists; investment fund team; president and treasurer of EEE women's social club; Campus Ministries leader; Tiger Serve Day leadership; and Student Senate.

• Natalie Bingaman of Fayetteville, a psychology major. Her accomplishments include study abroad service leadership award; EEE women's social club.

• Anna Holcomb of Fayettville, a biology major. Her accomplishments include president's and dean's lists; EEE women's social club; Astronomy Club; J.D. Patterson research program; American Chemical Society; Student Senate; junior class secretary.

• Emma Riley of Fort Smith, is a biblical studies and Christian ministries double major. Her accomplishments include president's list; top academic achiever in the school of Christian studies; outstanding student in biblical studies and Christian ministries; New Testament and Zondervan Elementary Greek awards; sophomore ministerial award; Tri Chi women's social club; student recruitment co-chair for the Ouachita Student Foundation; worship service speaker for Campus Ministries; Theta Alpha Kappa national honor society for religious studies and theology; Alpha Chi national college honor society; Pruet Sisterhood.

• Nathan Street of Rogers, a music and business administration and finance double major. His accomplishments include dean's list; Ouachita Singers; concert choir; OBU men's tennis team; worship leader for Campus Ministries.

• Emily Weeden of Rogers, a worship arts major. Her accomplishments include president's and dean's lists; top academic achiever the school of fine arts; James Harrison, Presser, fine arts and Ouachita Scholars scholarships; Ouachita Singers and Ouachita Sounds; Alpha Chi national honor society; Pi Kappa Lambda national music honor society; Theta Alpha Kappa national honor society for religious studies and theology; Campus Ministries leader; Tiger Tunes leader; and Christian focus week leader.

• Arden Hall of Springdale, an applied mathematics and physics double. Her accomplishments include the Rowland Memorial award for academic excellence in physics; president and treasurer of Tri Chi women's social club; Student Senate; global focus week leader.

• Mitchell Richards of Springdale, a biology major. His accomplishments include president's list; freshman biology student of the year; president, vice president and historian of Eta Alpha Omega men's social club; Student Senate; Tri Beta biological honor society; Alpha Chi national honor society; American Chemical Society.

Arkansas State University

Morgan E. Atkins of Springdale, a social work major at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro was named to Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges for 2016‑2017.

College of the Ozarks

The College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Mo., has awarded several scholarships to local students. Awards are given based on outstanding accomplishments in the areas of academics, work and character.They include Amanda Ray of Bentonville, the William H. and Evelyn H. Shopp nursing scholarship; Cameron Paschke of Fayettville, Noel E. Custer scholarship; T.J. Goze of Rogers, the Samuel L. Murto music scholarship; and Jonas Stewart of Bentonville, received the Flash Photo photography award.

UAFS Numa

University of Arkansas at Fort Smith students, alumni, registered student organizations and advisers were awarded for their work throughout the school year during the 14th annual Numa awards ceremony.

Numas are presented to students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills, student organizations who have worked to improve campus life and advisers who have supported their organizations and made an impact on student success. Chancellor's spirit awards are given to students who excel academically, have long-term records of service in leadership and membership roles on campus, have made a significant impact on campus co-curricular life, display a strong sense of school pride and spirit, and utilize an ethical leadership style that is an example.

Awarded students included Corey Johnson of Fayetteville, Greek man of the year; Johnny Resendiz of Fort Smith, fraternity new member of the year; Jennifer Hosley of Greenwood, Numa student leader of the year; Corey White of Scranton, intramurals player of the year; Andrew Haught of Siloam Springs, Greek chapter president of the year; Steve Kite of Van Buren, Numa advisor of the year; Jennifer Hardaway of West Fork, Numa nontraditional student leader of the year; and Jessica Reed of Winslow, sorority new member of the year.

UAFS ROTC

Two local graduates of the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith ROTC received their commissions as second lieutenants in the armed forces during a ceremony May 13. They recited their federal oaths of office during the university's commencement ceremonies.

Samuel Lisk of Greenwood, a chemistry major, was commissioned as a quartermaster into the Army National Guard. Adrian Whitaker of Fort Smith, a criminal justice major, was commissioned with military police with the Army Reserves.

Arkansas Tech University

Eight educational professionals from across Arkansas are the first doctoral graduates in the history of Arkansas Tech University in Russellville. They received the doctor of education degree in school leadership at the completion of the spring 2017 semester.
