Christin Hurst, Arts Live board member and parent volunteer, said her son Chris, 17, has been involved with the nonprofit organization for four years.

Arts Live "gave him a safe haven to be around like-minded kids who want to be around each other," Hurst said.

Mark Landon Smith, executive director of Arts Live, said proceeds from the evening will help support the Arts Live Theatre scholarship fund and programming.

The group, founded in 1983, offers arts education and performance opportunities for children ages 5 through 18. Arts Live offers some more than 50 classes and works with more than 400 children annually.

The next production, Sherlock Holmes High School, will be staged June 22-25.
