MONTE NE -- An adult and infant were hospitalized Tuesday morning after a large machine crashed into their Canal Street house about 6:50 a.m., officials said.

Benton County crews have been cleaning up roads and filling pot holes in the area and the machine, which has been referred to as a street sweeper, was on a hill on Bonnabel Road, Communications Director Channing Barker said. The home is on the corner of Canal and Bonnabel.

Rogers Fire Department was first on the scene. The machine pinned down an infant and woman believed to be her mother, Chief Tom Jenkins said. Another child who was in the home was uninjured.

It took about 30 minutes to extricate the two, and injuries were considered serious, Jenkins said. One was taken by medical helicopter to a hospital, and the other was driven to a hospital.

The worker driving the machine was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries, Jenkins said.

The names of the injured were not released.

Arkansas State Police said they are investigating the incident, as is standard protocol.

Canal Street was closed to traffic as of 11 a.m., but crews are letting residents through, Barker said.
