Ninth Grand Prix run will step off in Benton

The Arkansas Runner 2 Mile -- ninth of the 20 footraces that make up the Arkansas Grand Prix -- begins at 7:30 a.m. Saturday on a brand new course beginning at the Boys and Girls Club at Riverside Park, 1810 Citizens Drive, Benton.

Benton's Riverside Park just opened in April, so the website suggests 107 Holland Park Road as an alternate address for GPS purposes.

Online registration is available until 11:59 p.m. Thursday for $20 (ages 19 and under pay $10) plus a $2.50 fee. Packet pickup and race-day registration will be available from 6 to 7 a.m. at the starting line, but it will cost an extra $5 for runners ages 19 and up. There is a multi-person price cap for households, $50 per family online, $60 per family on race-day.

For runners ages 15 and younger, a 1-Mile Kids Fun Run is free. The kids run will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Racers will be chip-timed, and there's a $30 penalty if the chips are not returned. Awards will be given three-deep in overall, masters, grand masters and seniors categories, as well as by age groups in five-year increments.

Proceeds benefit Boys and Girls Club in Benton.
