Lip sync battle boosts heart health

Patrons mingle with Maestro

Musically inclined community members went head to head at the Heart Ball: Heart of a Rockstar Lip Sync Battle Season 2 on May 12. The evening at the John Q. Hammons Center in Rogers helped the nonprofit organization raise some $560,000.

Judges for the competition were Julie Barber, event chairwoman and Wal-Mart vice president and district merchandising manager; Andy Kaufmann, Edgewell Personal Care senior director; Sharif Omar, season one performer and Northwest Health chief executive officer; and Desmond Howard, college and professional football player.

Judges deemed Jeremy Barclay, Northwest Health, who performed as Eminem, winner of the competition.

Cameron Smith, Cameron Smith & Associates, took the prize for Fan Favorite.

Other competitors were:

Courtney Backus Norton, Green Dental Lab with National Dentex;

Ryley Williams, stroke survivor and AHA advocate;

Stephanie Martinez, the Mancia Group; and

Zach Simpson, Up Stream Media.

Maddox Fitzgerald, 5, was the evening's Open Your Heart featured survivor. Missy and Jason Fitzgerald shared Maddox's story of being diagnosed with an atrial septal defect and undergoing open heart surgery to repair it when he was 3 years old.

The 2017 class of Sweethearts was presented at this year's ball. The girls are community-minded high school sophomores who spent the past nine months doing community service while learning the importance of a heart healthy life.

Those boosting the association at the lip sync battle included Biffy Fletcher, Suzy and Chuck Fehlig, Jamie and Josh Hamblen, Bobby Height, Natasha Harris, Lori Lieblong, Kaeli Bragg, Charleen Jones and Kirby Jett Harris and Nathan Harris.

Mary Ann and Reed Greenwood opened their Fayetteville home to Walton Arts Center patrons on May 16 for an evening with Corrado Rovaris, Artosphere Festival Orchestra music director. Rovaris is also the music director of the Opera Company of Philadelphia and principal conductor of the Orchestra | Virtuosi Italiani.

The Artosphere Festival Orchestra is made up of more than 90 musicians from symphonies and programs around the world. They performed three main concerts this year -- Mendelssohn in Scotland, Live from Crystal Bridges: Mozart at the Museum and the Artosphere Festival Finale on May 20.

Next for the arts center is the Art of Wine Festival fundraiser featuring the Winemaker's Dinner on Thursday, Uncorked: Friday Night Tasting and Premier Tasting on Saturday.

Those mingling with the maestro included Brock Gearhart, Jett Moore, Jett Moore, Corbin Carlisle, Chase Foster, Yvonne Chauvin, Shannon and Terry Ortego, Laura and Bruce Wilkins, Nancy and Dick Trammel, April Rye Shy, Elizabeth and Gerald Jordan, Ann and Morriss Henry, Lewis Epley, Sheri Rothwell and Brenda and Bob Gullett.
