ROGERS -- Plans and money for the Rogers Historical Museum renovation are in the home stretch.

The refurbished collections building at Third and Poplar Streets recently passed inspection, Assistant Director Terrilyn Wendling said during a Museum Commission meeting Thursday night.

Rogers Historical Museum summer events

Family Day “Down on the Farm” will be at the museum 322 S. Second St. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The free event will have activities for all ages and food, as well as cheese and weaving demonstrations, community booths, antique tractors, Model A cars and pony rides.

An “Evenings on the Lawn” series will be Tuesday afternoons throughout the summer. It will kick off with a Daisy Outdoor air rifle competition on June 6. The 106th Army Band will perform on June 13 and further events focus on fly fishing, playing old-fashioned lawn games, exploring fire trucks, as well as other live music and games, Terrilyn Wendling, assistant director, said.

Museum staff will prepare shelving, carts, install phones and wrap the buildings lights in ultraviolet filters starting next week. A date for moving the museum's collections is contingent upon an occupancy letter, which Wendling said will be secured soon. Initial estimates were for June, but the move-in date will likely be in July.

Kathy Orr, of the Rogers Museum Foundation, said the organization is in the process of collecting remaining pledges and will then meet with Mayor Greg Hines and the City Council to discuss the city-funded portion of the project. Orr hopes the item will be included on the agenda for a late June council meeting.

The commission also approved a resolution recognizing naming rights for a new round of donations made for the museum expansion. The recent gifts were made by Dr. Russell and Sylvia Riggs, the Rotary Club of Rogers, Bob and Becky Alexander, Richard and Gaye Bland, Chad and Laura Mitchell and the Rogers Public High School Alumni.
